One of my favorite people to interview for the current issue of tMf was model, actor and artist Brody Harris. Brody talks openly about moving from Utah to San Francisco, his experiences modeling naked and the importance of being out. Below are a few pieces that sadly had to be edited out of the final piece. How has this played out within your own experiences? Have you ever been encouraged to be more ‘straight’ publicly?

A-LoL no, I live in the city somewhere over the rainbow, in San Francisco being gay is A-ok. In reality, I probably book more jobs because I meet more men in the industry at a bar, online, etc who are gay themselves.

Q-In your recent work with Licht, your sporting a moustache, which creates a totally different and unexpected look. At first I was not sure I liked it as well, then those shots became some of my favorites. Was there intent with the moustache or was it just how you were looking on that particular day, you almost have a De Niro cica Taxi Driver look.

A-Actually, I had seen a film called "Bronson." Bronson was such a sexy, bad ass character that I decided to regrow my mustache inspired by him. Licht and I talked about shooting again, and he was excited I had a mustache and we worked with it.

Q- Speaking of De Niro, who are your favorite actors and what are the acting opportunities that you have been apart of in SF?

A-Tom Hardy is one of my favorites, he played Bronson. Some other favorites off the top of my head are Natalie Portman, Helen Bonham Carter, Brad Pitt, umm,, Uma Thurman... As for SF, unfortunately my focus hasn't been on acting as much since coming here but I'm having an itching for it again.

Q-Although you shot nude with both with Kristopher Kelly and Rick Day there were different feels to both shoots, tell me about those shoots.

A-Working with Kris, I felt he was going for something darker and more sensual. I love the feeling he created and I think the shots are powerful. With Rick and his Players book, we wanted to create something very masculine and athletic. It was a lot of challenging poses and tight flexing throughout. But in the end, he got some extremely sexy shots.

As many of you know I love showcasing images featuring dancers. I stand to be corrected, but I believe this is one of the first times the dancer is the one behind the lens. After many years as a professional dancer, Italy's Kevin Moore from Arteo Photo was used to conceiving the physical world in terms of shape and motion.

'The natural progression of searching for another creative outlet is what inspired me to become a photographer. I wanted to capture the movements and rhythms in the world around me. An exploratory choreography of shape, light and shadow. I wanted to flavor what I saw with the right combination of ingredients; Light, shadow, concept and of course a bit of spice.'

I have always believed that those whose lives are full of success and contentment are those who have seen the key is finding rhythm. There is rhythm to each day, each hour, each and every facet of living is finding the rhythm. When you cannot quite find, and especially when you fight, the natural rhythms that surround you, life is so much tougher. You can see within Kevin's work, every choice, every movement, color and prop blend quietly and seamlessly into the other creating classic images of male beauty.

'I was an avid shooter of inanimate objects, textures and land- and cityscape's. Then I wandered into the realm of male figurative photography. I've gone in this direction after discovering Bob Mizer's Athletic Models Guild beef cake photos, Wilheim von Gloeden and his pastoral nude studies of Sicilian boys, moving to Italy and by becoming a collector connoisseur of of original prints and photo books of male erotica. I loved the posed photos of those periods. In their innocence they were quite sexual masculine and creative.'

'I am inspired by Italian renaissance sacred art and by two artist in particular of that period, Caravaggio and Michelangelo. Classic influences include graeco-roman sculpture as well of the sculpture of Antonio Canova. Modern day influences include Dave LaChappelle Steven Arnold, Jan Saudek, Andres Serranno and Greg Gorman. If you do not know any of this artists, I would strongly suggest you look them up. I am drawn to all these artists and photographers. They succeed in presenting eroticism in a subtle way without falling into vulgarity. This is what I am attempting in my work:Subtle, sensual, eroticism expressed through the male form but always in the context of some idea or concept.'

Collections: Rex Video King

I have always been a collector. Mostly books, magazines and images. Being born in the 70's I have a particular affinity for magazines and pop culture items from the late 70's through the early 90's. Prior to reality television making celebrities out of pretty much anyone, tv and movie magazines were much more artistic than the In Touch and OK tabloids today. Covers were important and there were many glossy images, many from photographer Harry Langdon of the most beautiful women on television and the movies. TV Guides were a must and I loved collecting them from all over the world.

When I was 26 I moved from the city to be closer to my new job. Each of the first five years included a move to a new place to live. Small apartments, living with friends, saving until I could have my own place. In those five years, those five moves I sold, gave away and through out much of my collections. Part of me regrets this from time to time but even though I am now in my thirties I still don't feel settled yet. There are still many moves left in me and having less makes traveling much easier.

When I was profiling model AJPack last week, I came across his work with London photographer Rex Video King. Now I know I should have been focused on the men but for some reason I was equally struck by their surroundings. Given that FH is now in it's 5th year I have seen photographers place naked models in almost every setting imaginable. I think Rex's shots are the first time I have seen collections included in the mix. While most photographers stick to subtle backgrounds, as not to distract from the model, Rex loves using natural and interesting, what he describes as fussy backgrounds. As time goes on, I am finding it far more interesting to see models placed within an environment instead of placed in front of it.

'I like the strong lines of shelves, books etc against the curves of the male body.'

'Loving music, I started collecting - and this dates me - LPs thousands or LPs. Of course there are now thousands of CDs as well. Add to that a love of books. The piano is a 1929 early electric pianolla loving restored and, of course, there are hundreds of piano rolls. And I forgot to mention the theatre posters - three floors of them! and I think they make a wonderful back drops.'

'I'm not commercial, but I hate saying amateur as I had years of video experience before I started photography and have brought to it some of those past skills. I use the word fussy for backgrounds but I love working in the open with trees and leaves and with a plain brick wall. All have their own shapes and this against the natural curves of the model make pictures interesting. I also like working with mirrors and am now experimenting with candles. A recent shot was done in a formal friend's house with mirrors and statues and the results, in my opinion were terrific - putting a model in clothes in that setting would be treason!'

A Felix Follow-up

When I profiled photographer Doug Vetter's work with Felix this past Saturday, I left out these shots. I chose to focus on the images of Felix shot in the abandoned house and barn located within the Virginia countryside. But...given how much I love Doug's work with Felix, I wanted to share the rest. In addition, to share some of Doug's thoughts on the shoot and working with Felix.

'The photos are from two different shoots, both of which took place at the eastern Virginia home of Bob Worthy, a fellow photographer, fine artist, and friend. Bob introduced me to Felix and another model on a beautiful September morning and we spent about three hours moving around the property and taking turns working with each of the models. It was a great shoot, very relaxed and very productive even though neither of the models had much experience.'

'I especially enjoyed my time working with Felix. He is very friendly, takes direction extremely well, has a great attitude; and of course he has an absolutely stunning body! He was not at all uncomfortable about posing nude. Felix is somewhat soft-spoken and extremely humble, and smiles easily and often. I was especially taken by his beautiful blue eyes. The shoot went so well that Bob and I invited Felix back for a second shoot in October. The weather was just warm enough to be comfortable shooting nudes outdoors, and Felix was once again an absolute pleasure to work with.'

'The purpose of the second shoot was primarily for me to shoot some documentary video of Bob working with Felix, but I was able to fit in some additional photographs of my own as we worked together for about two hours. Felix has a very full schedule including work, school, and family (he has a beautiful young daughter), and we have not yet been able to work out a follow up shoot, but I am looking forward to our next opportunity to work together in my home studio.'

Kudos to Weekend Update

There was a time when I watched SNL (especially on DVR) when the least funny part of the show was weekend update. My fast forward button usually worked overtime during this segment, especially in the 90's.

This past Saturday weekend update was the only part of the show that drew laughs. Despite her success in the sketch last year when she was the musical guest, Katy Perry failed to deliver much this time. The writing did not help, but there are some people who come off better in small doses. I don't even remember the musical guest (after the first few seconds I skipped on by).

Weekend update however was hilarious. Starting with Kristin Wig's 'flirt' followed by Alec Balwin and topped off by Stefon (Bill Hader's Stefon has been funnier but anytime he appears is welcomed). Seth Myers has turned a low point into pretty much the only point in watching lately.

Two of my favorite artists to profile are Mike Tossy & Mark Grantham. I have been featuring their work regularly on FH for the last three years. There is a magic within their images which I think comes from a number of factors. Both Mark and Mike describe photography as both a passion and a hobby, not a profession. The married couple insist the men they shoot are comfortable in front of their lens and want to be there. You can see the joy within the images that comes directly from the creative process, not because of deadlines and pay checks. Both Mark and Mike fill their lives with so many passions and experiences that you can feel them beautifully infiltrating their work.

We all see things slightly different and it is fascinating to see the slight, and not so slight, differences in how two or more artists choose to capture it. -A Window- Felix by Doug Vetter

Some FH readers may remember that I have written man times about my love of the use of windows within photography. Windows provide not only natural light, but a myriad of metaphors about reflection and reflecting. Looking not only at others, but with a window, ourselves. Although this incredible shoot does include a rotting, yet incredibly beautiful window, not to mention an amazing doorway, the window in this case is not made of wood and glass but instead it is a window of opportunity.

Like many of the artists I profile, Doug Vetter did not undertake photography as a moneymaking venture. His interest in photography dates back to the late seventies when he was in high school. It was important for Doug to have a creative outlet and although he spent many years in the creative world of video production, he now holds a corporate position. Doug loves his job but it provides little room for the expression of creative energy.

Because of Doug's job, his family responsibilities, and community commitments Doug is only able to unleash his creative energy a few days a month. This means plenty of organization, planning and scheduling shoots well in advance. Pursuing a passion, especially with such a limited window of time, means being painfully careful selecting your subjects to ensure whatever, or whomever, he is going to shoot is exceptional.

I think exceptional more than sums up model Felix J. Felix would have to be on the list of the most beautiful models I have had the pleasure to feature on FH. Incredible body, the most beautiful grey eyes and a face both strong, delegate full of emotional expression. With all of the shots (and there were many others not featured here) it did not seem possible for Doug to take a bad shot of Felix.

Of course it did not hurt that Doug so beautifully framed each of his shots utilizing his Virginia location to highlight both model and surroundings. The juxtaposition between the location, rundown and flawed with Felix, flawless, only added to the beauty of the images.

Just Because: The X Factor

First off. I don't like seeing anyone in pain, especially a child. That being said however, there was something epic about Rachel Crow's elimination this week on The X Factor. I finally watched my DVR of last nights results show tonight. Like the entire season, it was over the top, overly dramatic, and there was almost something Shakespearean about it. What ever goes up, must come down! On most reality shows the winner, no matter how rotten or vile, seems to get away with their sins when the prize is awarded. Now Rachel is too young for sins or to be responsible for either her win or her loss. Her fall from grace last night however was clearly not about talent but due to those around her. She began on the show an adorable 13 year old, precocious and immensely talented. She ended her reign as a 35year old, in dress and in voice, overly coached, singing and talking in a way that turned off most who loved her in the beginning. Her fault, nah, but whether it be her parents, agent, Simon or the shows producers, whatever connection people felt towards the girl back when the show began faded with each 'big smile' and 'big reaction' she gave week in and week out.

Lost In Time: Zachary Oliver by Wananga

As always, it is one shot that usually begins my curiosity and interest in a model and photographer. In the case of 25 year old model Zachary Oliver the shot was the last one featured within this piece. Yes it is a nude, but that was not the reason. Most often do we see a great image of a clothed model and want to see him in less. How often do you see an image of a nude model and want to see more of his face? The shot of Zachary (Zo) by Wananga, had such beauty through the use pose and lighting that I wanted to find out more about both model and the artist behind it.

The pose may have come naturally to Zachary as he says that he has always been intrigued of photography and noticed himself always striking poses in front a camera. I wonder sometimes about those kids who always pose when a camera comes out and wonder what inside them, even at an early age, wants to perform and become something beyond what they are. Although Zachary has worked with other photographers, most of his work has been with Robert from Wananga.

Zachary says he is pretty comfortable in front of a camera, and will try almost anything. If you check out Zachary's MM page (HERE:) you will tell from the shot in the fishnets his adventurous and creative nature is at work. He is always up for new ideas, and has recently became infatuated with action shots and body paint.

In Zachary's work with Robert you can clearly see that creating something new and unique is clearly the objective.

'He was a joy to work with, very professional, allowed me accent some of the photos that he had lined up. For exampled, allowed me to chose different attire and poses and postures (anything that I felt would help the photos). I enjoy every moment of modeling and with Wana we ended up having about a 2-3 hour photo session, we got lost in time and new ideas kept arising'

I love to post images of dancers. Every time I do I talk about how they make the best models due to how well they know their bodies and how well they are able to use them within their work. I think it is more than though. When I see a model in an image, no matter how great the shot, they remain a model. When I see a shot of a dancer, I instantly connect to a part of who they are that is not always present with other models.

Being a dancer takes a type of strength, a dedication, that goes beyond what most of us, even other athletes, commit to. It means a degree of pain, both mental and physical that most models are not accustomed to pushing themselves to or through. It means hours of practice, much of it alone, early mornings, auditions and for most, far too many rejections. It is a short career, if one at all, not usually financially rewarding. For male dancers it also means at some point during their youth, they must make a decision to pursue something almost everyone around them does not support.

I am a huge fan of the work of Scott Barnes and have featured his images often. I think The Dancer Stretches is my favorite of his works. The editorial series, showcased in his Dreams section of his site Vir Impudicus. The shoot embodies so much of what I love about photography. Without words, a story is told. It is beautifully quiet, erotic with an emotional impact.

'After shooting Tim, for a while I didn't want to work with any guy that WASN'T a dancer. They just move to naturally and smoothly and beautifully. A dancer and a photographer is a perfect combination.'

Any Other Fool: Shades Of Blue by Carlo Chapelle

Chicago based singer Carlo Chapelle sings Any Other Fool as part of his debut recording Shades Of Blue. Carlo's soothing voice is perfectly suited for Dianne Warren ballad hitting the right notes of longing and regret. Shades Of Blue was recorded over three years in Chicago, Indiana and Manila and features an eclectic group of songs including several standards. Other hightlights of the the album include “God Bless the Child,” the Bergman classic “What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life”, arranged especially for Carlo by well known singer/composer/arranger, Beckie Menzie and an acapella version of “The Nearness of You”

Born in Manila, Carlo started his singing career in the church choir with THE group People, Precious and Few choir. The group toured the Philippines and was recorded by the record label, IVORY RECORDS. During recording of the album, “Ama Namin”, Carlo was asked to record for another independent LP entitled, "80's Mega Medley". It was a tribute cover album to the 80's pop hits as we were approaching 1990. Carlo’s solos were the Michael Jackson classic "Billie Jean” and the dance floor 80's hit "I Beg Your Pardon".

Moving to Chicago in 1991, Carlo has appeared at such clubs as Gentry, Cotton Club, Bailiwick Repertory Theater, Davenport’s, The Ramada Hotel, Petterino’s, while also appearing on a local cable show called “Pinoy TV”. Carlo was also honored by being the opening musical act for Philippine singing sensation, Regine Valasquez, when she toured the USA with an appearance at the Gateway Theater.

Blade Runner: Oscar Pistorius

I had not heard of Oscar Pistorius until I was recently flipping though this years Man Of The Year issue of GQ. I was immediately in love with the man and his story. The South African sprint runner, known as the Blade Runner and the fastest man on no legs is the world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 metres. Reading how Oscar has been criticized for having an unfair advantage over other athletes due to his disability and prosthetic legs was beautifully ironic!

It is sort of interesting that you can stand out by looking exactly as you are. Modeling today involves so much body shaving, body covering and digital manipulation that it is often shocking to see candid shots of models without all the primping and editing. Because of all of this, 20 year old model AJPack is considered unique by something as beautiful, yet as common, as his body hair.

As much as I love the body hair, AJ's appeal goes beyond the fur. Tall, incredible body and the face of a classic leading man, strong with delicate features with beautiful brown eyes. AJ describes himself as quiet, professional and easy going, Certainly not shy, the London model likes having fun while working and being apart of the creative process. These are some of my favorite images from AJ's portfolio.

I have not had much time to watch much television lately but did begin setting my dvr to Days Of Our Lives again a few weeks ago after reading that the show finally officially committed to Will's coming out storyline. Chandler Massey seems like a great guy, sensitive and proud of the storyline and touching carefully but succinctly on the right notes of confusion, anger and pain. I have never seen, only read, about other soap opera coming outs but this one is hitting close to home for me and I look forward to watching it unfold.

Catharsis: IFB Photography

On stage and in film, Catharsis occurs after a moment of high tragedy usually at the climax of the performance. What follows is an emotional cleansing and purging for the characters and maybe more importantly, for the audience. This moment is a release of both physical and emotional tensions usually marking a turning point for a character. For directors, this is an important moment, one that often defines the 'story', summing up hours in just a few seconds. For a photographer, this moment can be equally as powerful. Ian Burgess from IFB is aware that you’re only as good as the end product. Ian is satisfied if each of his images tells a different story to each and every person who views it.

'Because my background originates from theatre and tv related graphic design, and subsequently working with actors, then my main focus in any photograph is that “the eyes have to say something”. An incredible looking model can be just that, but if there’s not tale or intent showing in their eyes – which you can only get with the right person and the right trust and connection between model and photographer – then you’ll get a technically good, very pleasant photograph that means absolutely nothing to anybody.'

It is important to Ian that his work appeal to a “universal” audience. The story, the models intent, their sexuality, can be whatever the viewer wants or needs it to be. This appeal is clearly evident in the images and models featured in this post. I love how Ian incorporates his experience working with actors and performance and the results are dramatic, theatrical images, using costume, set and pose to create images bursting with emotion and urgency.

I asked Ian to share a few words about the images and models I chose to include:

Adam Coussins

'Adam Coussins is one of those most accomplished and reliable models I’ve ever had the pleasure to shoot, he appeals to a massive audience: guys want to be his best mate and go for a drink, girls want to fantasize what they’d do with him, and gay guys want to do exactly the same! Once you’re into the swing of a photo session, the ideas start feeding back, so they tend to be hugely productive – when a model knows the way you work, then they know (like a code or shorthand) what you expect. And he’s a great looking guy with perfect body shape to light and work with.'

Harsh

'I’ve only worked with Harsh once. A very charming, quietly professional model from London. As I was due to be photographing slightly differently, using costumes designed by a really incredible stylist Neil Fisher, the model and styles needed to create their own story, and as Harsh is both an actor and model, then as we’d been talking about maybe doing some work together, suddenly it seemed the right time. It was a long photo session, but I don’t think I heard one complaint and I think I’ll explore a series of these “fantasy exotic stylings” more in the future.'

Haydn

'Probably my all time favourite model. He works exclusively for me and was one of those rare occasions where you see someone working in everyday life and think, well, I’ll just face a smack in the mouth for suggesting it – but just asked if he would model for me. He checked with his girlfriend, checked my work and agreed. The good thing is, you really can throw him a challenge, if the waters cold, he’ll look you in the eye, call you all the name sunder the sun and then just get on with it – I like that and respect that. He’s got great male model look anyway, and a natural style that changes with his moods and where he is with his life, works hard, drinks hard and enjoys life to the full. Pretty much a good mate now but also still modelling, so I will be doing a whole new series of work in 2012 with him – and I can’t wait!'

Tim

'Tim is another very shy, normal everyday guy who I had seen working. It’s tricky explaining to someone why you think they could work as a model, but just people walking past would stop and stare at him, I think the big soulful eyes, great styling too. So he stripped for series of photographs, predominantly for a calendar. We used an amazing location, not a set, someone’s actual house and it worked so well, as soon as you walked in you could feel the creativity there – the house belongs to an incredible singer/songwriter, and everything in the place just clicked, I could have spent forever photographing in there, and have in fact used it again for a chocolate advertising campaign I worked on.'

I had seen Ian's incredible work with Nick & Adam before, but this shot of Tim was the image which had me reach out to the artist about a profile. I loved Tim's expression, the dramatic surroundings, and or course how Ian chose to shoot 'Tim' both subtly and overtly.

Nick Wolanski

'Nick Wolanksi is another one of those “ticks the boxes” models. He’s not only incredibly experienced in modelling, both in the UK, America and Europe, he’s also used his experience in working in the adult industry to understand it, use his brain and has a great future ahead. He’s still only young, but done so much, great musician and DJ, I’ve seen him wow the crowds in some of the biggest clubs in London, and was surprised how well this Scottish powerhouse worked the crowds. Because he’s 100% reliable, and sees it as his side of the job to get himself into shape when he knows he’s doing a shoot, there is NO situation, set up or location that you can’t throw at him that won’t make him crack up with laughter, then strip off and give you 100%.'

Turn Around: The Photography of Frank Bell

If you check out FH on any type of a regular basis you already know I have a, lets just say affinity, for beautiful butt shots. I can't tell you how many times a photographer has sent me a set of shots to showcase that has frontal after frontal without a great rear view. Thankfully, Frank Bell's portfolio is not one of them. The Atlanta photographer's images were so full of incredible posterior poses it was an easy decision to make them my focus.

There was one particular derrière that stood out to me and the model is featured in many of the shots shown here. One of the things I loved so much about Frank's work with the model was the element of mystery and of reveal in each image. We are seeing a lot, but yet not all. I am not a huge fan of 'tease' within imagery, teasing always has an element, even if a small one, of cruelty or taunting. Standing naked with a hand over your crotch is an much overused and almost insulting pose unless the hand eventually is removed. Don't get me wrong, I fully respect a model who does not wish to show all, but I think there is a clear difference between 'teasing' the viewer and leaving a little to the imagination. It is usually crystal clear by looking at an image what the intent is.

Frank Bell's intent is not subtle or hidden, he is shooting butts meant to be enjoyed. Frank says that the model used in many of these images came from an extremely conservative, religious family who he was living with when the shoot took place. He was clear with Frank that he would not pose nude yet surprised himself as he discovered how much he enjoyed showing his body. He ending up initiating being naked for each of their two shoots. With the rear views, Frank was able to capture some hot images while supporting the model to safely express and explore a side he usually kept covered and suppressed.

'I love to capture the natural beauty of my models. I never use any makeup. I take great care with my lighting and post production in order to capture the model's beauty.'

'I almost never get models from Model Mayhem. People there are not serious. They will send me a hundred messages about posing, but will never pick up the phone and make an appointment. I meet almost all of my models in the real world. I meet them in malls, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. I directly approach them and ask them to pose. I offer to let them see samples of my work. I am a huge man, very intimidating in appearance at 6'5" and nearly 400 lbs. So I have to be somewhat charming when I ask models to pose, since most are scared to death of my size! I shoot in a small space in my house, next to my grand piano and computer center. One of my favorite sayings is that "all photography is an illusion." When I show my work to prospective models and they say "I don't look that good," I say "Neither does the guy in the picture! I just captured him at the right instant - all photography is an illusion!"
Frank Bell

Now I am not sure if in the quote above, Frank's mention of a grand piano stood out to any of you. When I profile an artist however, I am always seeking out the nexus between the images and the artist. I am not exactly sure how important Frank's mention of his size factors into his work, but it is obvious Frank is aware of how his presence can may impact those around him. The grand piano is not only one of the largest, but can also be both imposing, and certainly one of the most impressive, musical instruments there is. I grew up around musical people and believe me you need a pretty impressive living room to surround a grand and it impacts everything that surrounds it, unusually by either complimenting, or overshadowing it.

Frank's surroundings are not only occupied by beautiful behinds, but by pianos, pianists and musical artistry. Frank is a highly regarded expert on Romantic virtuoso piano music and has recorded and produced with the world's finest pianists in both in the studio and in live concerts for decades. Virtuoso comes from the Latin, virtus meaning, skill, manliness and excellence. Frank, The Virtuoso Pianist, has produced and recorded concerts in major concert halls extending from Washington D.C.'s The Kennedy Center to Miami's Gusman Center. His recordings have been broadcast nationally and are a television series, The Virtuoso Pianist, which airs frequently on the Arts & Entertainment Network (A&E).

Believe me, although I knew it was wrong, it was difficult to stop myself from trying to tie 'virtuoso' with some form of the word 'butt' in the profile title but thankfully, I self censored! Ten From Tell

Tell Perry knows he may not be an obvious choice to be a male model. No bulging muscles or perfectly defined jaw line. What Tell does have that shines through each photo is his incredible smile and infectious personality which draw people to him.
The Indiana model is a performer and strives for perfection in anything takes on. This is not just in modeling, but athletics, running cross country or playing soccer through dancing and singing, Tell gives his all to each and every performance

Given the Tell is just starting out in the business I thought it would be interesting to find a bit out about his perceptions of his experiences so far.

Q-Tell me about the first time you stepped in front of a camera professionally.

The first time I stepped in front of a camera professionally was for a little photography company my Senior year of high school. I had absolutely no confidence until the photographer, Casi Leisure, began to cry and get excited over the quality of the photos. It was an amazing feeling, to see a professional get so excited over work that involved me.

Q-Do you see modeling as a career or as part of the big picture of where you’re going?

I could see modeling as a career for sure. It's the end result I love the most. The clothes, the compliments, and the locations are fun, but the end results of both the photographer and the model are always rewarding.

Q-You’re also a performer, how much does performing play a role within your modeling?

Performing plays a huge part in shooting. It helps with feeling comfortable. You're asked to show emotions you don't exactly feel at the time. Performing in front of thousands is overwhelming, performing in front of a single person is a lot more intimate.

Q-Model Mayhem is a great way to connect with others in the industry. What is the most interesting request you have had since joining the site?

Model Mayhem is so addicting and fun. I meet such interesting people on there along with very interesting requests...the most interesting one has been a photographer asking to shoot photos of me in complete clown attire. I had to refuse cause the weekend conflict...had It worked out, I would have done it in a heartbeat...it sounded so intriguing.

Q-What is the oddest request?

The oddest request I was given was to take photos mourning over graves in a graveyard. I had to decline. Out of respect for others I didn't want to mourn the life of someone I didn't know.

Q-What factors went into deciding whether or not to shoot nude?

I always look at the photographers past work before deciding to take my clothes off or not. There is a clear line between beautiful nudity even erotic photos and porn. There are some photographers who tasteful do nudity, and other photographers who will you get you naked for their own sexual interest, which is apparent in some of their photos.

Q-How did you feel during your first nude shoot?

My first nude I was nervous, but the photographer, Scott Barnes, was SO amazing and was completely professional. He was a great mentor and I look back now and couldn't be more happy that the first photographer I did nudity with was him. He is an amazing artist.

Q-Is there a model whose work you especially admire?

Oddly enough... I admire Alex Pettyfer, he is well known for his roles in movies like Beastly and I Am Number Four, but his photo work is amazing. He is so handsome and so engaging, it's easy to get jealous of him.

Q-What photographer would you most like to work with?

There are so many photographers I would love to work for. Paul Reitz being one! I had plans to work with him in November/December but unfortunately school got in the way.

Q-What would be your fantasy dream shoot?

My fantasy dream shoot would be a male version of fairy tales. Two men playing fairy tale couples like 'Cinderella and Prince Charming' or 'Sleeping Beauty and Prince Charming'. Two men, no dresses. I think that would be so fun.

I love blogger stats! It is always fascinating to see what is grabbing attention. Although #'s 3-10 were model and photographer profiles, the #2 clicked on post for November was The Property Brothers and the #1 was my piece on Jessica Lange. I am sure it has to do with where certain posts are linked but having Jessica's post the top viewed post somehow surprised me!

Speaking of Lange, isn't her tv son really knocking it out of the park on American Horror Story. Evan Peters has been both terrifying and heartbreaking as Tate. His reveal as the Rubber Man was a surprise to me! There are so many incredible characters on AHS but Tate is one of the most intriguing.

Chord Overstreet strips his way back to Glee this Tuesday in a welcomed, and not entirely unpredictable, return. I am pretty sure Chord was never really 'off' the show but instead his brief hiatus was a great way for the show to generate buzz for one of it's most popular actors.

Kudos also to Harry Shum Jr. Mike Chang has danced behind the shows leads for over two years and lately he finally gets the chance to shine.

Frank Ryan by Studio R9 Tampa

My usual association when I hear the name Frank is of the father of a school friend of mine. I remember growing up hearing his wife constantly saying 'Frank, no, Frank stop!' She was always saying that because that Frank was loud, abrasive, and always doing something that bothered or embarrassed his wife.

Thanks to Rick from Studio R9 I now have a much better vision when Frank comes up. When going through Rick's portfolio it was clear there was something special about m20 year old Tampa model Frank Ryan. I can't exactly put it into words but you see it too I know. Frank's appeal is not hidden or subtle, it is on the surface for everyone to see and enjoy.

Rick saw it as well and his camera certainly captured it beautifully. Rick has been a photographer for many years and has his own studio in Tampa. Rick's focus for the past six years has been shooting models, both male and female. Frank was Rick's server at a local restaurant and Rick knew right away he had something special.

After about 3 months of us talking back and forth about a shoot, I agreed to work with him in my studio and settings. He was a natural and very comfortable in front of the camera.

I think Frank's ease and comfort being in front of Rick's lens is one of the major factors to his appeal. It is odd to me how often even some models, even some major successful ones, almost seem to not want their images to be enjoyed. You can see it in their work, no matter what the image, the pose, their unease is unmistakable. This is not the case with Frank Ryan. Frank has a clear confidence which can be seen through his eyes and demeanor.

Kudos to Dominic Cooper in The Devil's Double

I am not sure why but until The Devil's Double actor Dominic Cooper was not even remotely on my radar. I am not sure I really saw him in too much actually. I think I knew him most from him being in Mamma Mia and I only got about 10 minutes into that movie before turning it off.

Checking IMDB I of course saw many of Cooper in many of his earlier roles but again he never jumped off the screen the way he did in The Devil's Double. His dual performance was flawless from beginning to end and I hope he is remembered as we enter the award season. The film is incredible, hard to watch at times due to violence and the immense level of cruelty but it never let go of me until the credits began to role.

Dressed in Snow

I can't really imagine living anywhere that did not have four seasons. I know that when you have both bitter cold and scorching heat within a 5 or 6 month period that complaining about the weather becomes habitual. There is an energy to each season that I both look forward to arriving and can't wait for to leave.

Winter officially begins for most of us on the 21st but for me, it hit big and hit hard last week. Snow is really the best clothing a planet can wear. It makes crappy houses look warm, uncared for lawns and gardens look as incredible as those that have had every weed plucked and every chemical to green applied on them. It covers lost keys, dog shit and every other flaw of the land. It creates almost a more level playing field for the rich and the poor, the fat and the skinny that summer cannot.

Now I have had my hell moments in the snow as well. Driving in a blizzard can be frightening but most who have problems with the snow do so because they try to ignore it, pretend it does not stop everything and plow through like it is still spring. The trick to snow is to understand it's power and when it comes, drop everything your doing, stay where you are and let it have it's way with you until it's done.

Marco Alexandros by Dave Ouano

20 year Marco Alexandros is certainly more than his appearance, Marco describes himself as very versatile, energetic, fun, alive, and smiley. His passions include the creative, modeling and acting, as well as a passion for traveling. Marco has Argentina, Brazil and Japan on his destination list to visit in the next couple of years.

Another of Marco's passions, and one photographer Dave Ouano incorporated within their recent shoot, is sports. Marco says he is always pushing his limits in all aspects of his life whether it be athletics or modeling. Marco says he has been a athlete all his life and it is clear he would not have the body he has without hard work and discipline.

In my previous profile of Dave's work, (Eric Anderson by Dave Ouano) I wrote about Dave's focus on movement. While many photographers focus on a moment, one of the thing I love so much about Dave's work is his skill at capturing moments of motion. This creates an energy in Dave's work that is not only seen but felt.

A Creative Adventure Into An Uninhibited Mind Through Photography

As is usually the case, it is often one particular image that inspires me to seek out more work from the photographer. In the case of Dallas artist Mack Sturgis it was the image below of model Gary Gersbach. I love this shot! The darkness, the light hitting such beautiful places. The bed position and model position create a simple yet complete story. With Gary's face mostly hidden, the mood is created almost entirely through pose and light.

'I had just finished the entire art package for the renovation of a Major Airport Hotel...had one of the suites overlooking the runway for the weekend and thought it would be cool to bring in a model to shoot in the space. The shots of Gary are what evolved from that shoot. It was very comfortable working with him and he was great with interpreting my direction...and very much a sport about wearing the mask! There was intriguing energy in the rooms during the shoot...'

Soooo.... As I usually do, I began with the first image on Mack's Model Mayhem page and after enjoying each shot, pushed the arrow to move on to the next. Many of the first section of shots were of Gary, including the incredible shot above.

Then...and rather abruptly, Mack's work took a sudden and unexpected left turn. Most photographers, good ones anyway, have some slight twists and turns, back and forth along the way. With Mack the turn was more dramatic and unexpected. Faces began to sport gas masks and the darkness that initially drew me in became more specific, more violent and more intentional.

Launch

Themes of death and destruction, war and torture are weaved within the beautiful and erotic. Although this is not the first time I have seen such themes incorporated into images of the male form, but I think this is the first time I have seen it done so effectively.

Catcher

Many people seem to gravitate towards things that scare them. I am not so sure I am one of those people. With FH especially, I often pass on work that I think might be too provocative and especially work that's violent. What I cannot pass up on however is work that inspires me. I think provocative is only actually scary when its badly done. In the case of Mack Sturgis, his work did not simply create one emotion but on a roller coaster ride of them. Beginning with arousal moving quickly to shock and surprise through a bit of disgust, some sadness leading to oddly enough a little hope. The hope stems less from the images themselves but more from the actual creation of them.

Capturing moments in time through light.
Through experimenting with light and reflection, Mack has been creating powerful, original images which energize the mind for close to 30 year. Mack's goal is to allow the images, born in his mind, to emerge through the lens as closely as possible to what his mind had seen. Mack's images are created entirely combining the depth of his imagination and the ability of the camera to recreate them using combinations of lighting, camera movement and lens manipulation.

'The images are an attempt to honestly express in an uninhibited way ideas which have naturally evolved in his mind...images which may evoke a wide range of emotions, passions, stimulation's and conversations. Mack's desire is for the viewer to experience them with the same open mind he used to create them.'

Most of us, especially as we become older, become skilled at censoring and manipulating the ideas and thoughts which stream through our mind. Whether it be to conform or out of fear, it is a risky concept to share exactly what your thinking or envisioning. It is in the taking of the risk that really seems to truly define an artist. Creating the vision, and not a generically accepted version of it, is what makes Mack's work so absorbing.

For those who check out FH on a regular basis you know, I tend to often get a little long winded in my descriptions of the images that I love. With the exception of the final image below, I will let Mack's work speak for itself. Mack says that there is no literal translation for his work.

Never Turn Your Back On The Ocean...

From the age of about 16, whenever I could, I traveled. All though my late teens and early twenties I went away whenever the opportunity arose. The problem was I kept going back to the same places. I had two close friends in New York so I went there about seven times, an aunt in Boston took me there three or four times. Florida, Montreal, Toronto, Milwaukee and Maine were all places I frequented more than once. When I turned 28 I accepted a full time job. Since then, finding the time and money to take off has not been as easy. (why did I seem to have more cash before I was employed full time...)

I have several dream destinations, the same places as many of you I'm sure, Paris, Australia, Africa, Thailand and London (London actually has a planned date and savings account going). The closest location on my dream list would be Hawaii. My connection to the Islands is skimpy but nonetheless and intense one. An old collection of Hawaii records my parents had when I was a kid began it all. For years we had shelves of these records, many from the K-Tel collection, but no working record player to actually play them on. That did not stop me from taking the records to my room and spending hours listening to my cassettes while studying the art work on the album covers. My parents loved Hawaii and went every second year leaving us kids at home with a angry aunt not used to taking care of anyone but herself. They always brought us home something and the cheapest looking tacky souvenirs became symbols of future adventure.

When I picture Hawaii it is still the vision I had when I was 8 staring at those album covers. I know Hawaii is far more than luaus and grass skirts but I do love how the culture is so heavily impacted by it's location. Hawaii always had me dreaming of what life would be like if we lived somewhere in between the ocean and the land, spending our time between the two worlds but never spending too much time in just one.

Hawaii via Australia: David Does Donkey Beach!

If your a member of JustADream you are undoubtedly familiar with one of it's most popular posters David Asset. David has also been a frequent contributor to FH, chronicling and sharing many of the videos I use each year from the solo strips which precede the annual Broadway Bares show.

Early in October David entered a self-portrait competition over at one of my favorite places to visit each day Aussielicious. The site, as many of know, is run by the photographer Brenton Parry and is a welcoming site that I have enjoyed frequenting for a few years now. David's beautiful window shot brought him not only third place but his own feature on the site the following month.

In his Aussielicious feature, the former television executive and ACE-certified Aerobics Master Presenter shared his love of the Islands and his time, usually naked, on the their many beaches. In the shots below, David had just competed in an Aerobics Marathon in NYC and headed to Hawaii shortly afterwards for a holiday to relax and chill out.

'I love the freedom of a nude beach, emerging from the waters just as unencumbered as the day on which you were born. What's great about both Donkey Beach and Little Beach is that they are both visited by an eclectic bunch of people: tourists on holiday who want to be daring, locals who simply want to lay back at the end of the day, surfers out to tame the wild waves and families with children unashamed of their nakedness, gays and straights out for a day of camaraderie and fortunately very few gawkers.'

'Donkey Beach on Kauai is unfortunately becoming more gentrified and its status as a nude beach is being threatened by the development of multimillion dollar cooperative apartments nearby and I fear it will soon be off-limits to nudists. Little Beach on the other hand sits high above the Cliffs and requires a long, somewhat difficult journey over sand and rocks so will probably remain a nude for years to come.'

Hawaiian Heat: Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa has to be one of the hottest Hawaiian actors to make a splash the last year or two. Born in Honolulu, Momoa moved to Norwalk, Iowa but as he got older the Islands called him home where he returned to attend college.

In the late 90's, Momoa was discovered by designer Takeo who helped launch his modeling career. Soon after in 1999, Jason won 'Hawaii's Model of the Year.' Jason has a passion for travel, exploring and adventure. Ice climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking, long board skateboarding and roller hockey are all activities he has loved over the years.

Jason joined the cast of Baywatch Hawaii in 1999 and remained with the show for the next two years. Appearance on North Shore, The Game and Stargate: Atlantis followed. 2011 saw Jason move from supporting to lead roles with memorable turns on HBO's Game Of Thrones and the lead in the remake of Conan the Barbarian. Jason will be seen next in Bullet To The Head with Christian Slater and Sylvester Stallone.

Hawaii Adjacent: Ron Reyes Photography

Now I know the first two shots of Mark (above & below) may not scream Hawaii, but...they were one of the inspirations for today's posts. I have long admired the work of Ron Reyes and a few weeks ago when he posted the shot below on his photography facebook page I instantly contacted him. Ron's image, the pose, Mark's long lean and fit body, breathtaking!

Now truth be told Ron Reyes is not currently living in Hawaii. He lives and works in Laguna Hills California. Ron is however, one of only a few artists who incorporate traditional Hawaiian imagery as a theme within their work. The vibrant colors, the energy and rhythm associated with Hawaii can be felt in each of his images, even those with more subtle nods to the Islands and their culture.

Although Ron no longer lives in Hawaii it is a permanent part of who he is and it appears to be a mission to share his Pacific Island background and the beauty of the Island Culture with other parts of the country. Ron used to dance Hula but now concentrates on his music, singing and performing with his ukulele in Huntington Beach.

Before I moved on to Piano I played the ukulele and cannot count (or block out) the many times my parents insisted I play 'yellow bird' for aunts and uncles and anyone who visited our home who was over the age of 40. Although the ukulele never seemed to catch on in other parts of the US, it became a very popular instrument in schools especially for kids in Canada and Japan. No matter what the song or what genre is being played, connections to the Islands are always made. Although I no longer play on a regular basis, I still grab it whenever I am going camping or to a function music will be played.

Ron's passion for his home is present in each image he creates. I especially love the way he surrounds many of his models with tree's, plants and foliage. You can also see his passion for shooting models from various cultures and backgrounds. Ron is clear though that although he uses art within his work the focus is to remain the model. His goal is not to take away, but to enhance, and he surrounds his models with beauty that is equal to their own.

Just Because: Ben Wright

I have been wanting to do a feature on actor Ben Wright ever since I started FH. In the early 90's I listened to the Into The Woods soundtrack constantly and loved that I got to see the show via the PBS television version. I kept putting off posting about Ben hoping that I might track down some great image or he might appear in a new movie, tv show or stage production. Sadly I think Wright has left the business. His last Broadway credit is the 1996 production of State Fair and with the exception of playing 'Angry Man' in a 2008 short, Wrights last film credit was the 1994 Penny Marshall flick Renaissance Man.

I love Wrights vocals and Jack's few songs are some of my favorites. Into The Woods is a show in which the soundtrack is almost better than the actual show. The lyrics to many of the songs have so much meaning and say so much they cannot possibly be captured with just one listen. If anyone knows what Ben is up to please shoot me a line. If you have not listened to ITW you should, the entire cast is superb and Bernadette Peters' Children Will Listen is magnificent.

Karl is a magnificent photographer from Belgium, his portraits are clean, crisp and engaging. Karl has a talent for capturing the moment and allowing the model to tell the story. He pulls you in. He plays with space and emotion and seduction and time. He is creating great art along the way. When you explore his website, you see it is broken down by color, he attacks each color effortlessly and blends fashion and sensuality in the most amazing way.

For Karl Smet color is not just about what the visual. For the Brussels based photographer color is about sensation. It is rare to find an photographer whose site matches the same level of creativity that is displayed within his images. Karl's categories are as much about the what color represents as it about the color itself.

Black:

For many dark is a downer. I however love to surround myself with deep blues, blacks and greens. My real estate agent differs but white and yellow rooms depress the hell out of me. Although I wear bright colors I am not so fond of looking at them. Many institutions, hospitals in particular, go to extreme measures with brightness and color to hide their actuality.

Blue:

Since everyone sees color slightly differently we all identify to certain colors in our own way. It is interesting to ask yourself what certain colors mean and if this meaning effects what you choose you wear and keep around you. Does green mean growth and rebirth or is it jealousy or maybe cash and success. Red can be desire and passion or hate and anger. Does grey make you calm or is it connected to something dull and lifeless?

I remember as a kid I had this great uncle who spent every Christmas complaining about how commercialism has ruined the holiday. I didn't really get it and thought he was just an annoying old man. I am only in my thirties but have officially joined that club!

I don't want to be judgemental, if I could have gotten a 52 inch flat screen for a couple hundred bucks I would have been in line this morning too. But....shirtless Abercrombie guys aside, this years Black Friday push seems beyond what I remember from past years. Making a day that is about being thankful for what we have, into the biggest greed fest of the year is something only America can master. The commercials were relentless, retailers desperate to end everyone's holiday early and drag them into crowds and noise and yank their hard earned cash for products most don't actually need has a almost cruel element to it masked only slightly by theme songs, glitter and decorations.

Home Alone: Kyler Adair by Studio James

Voyeurism seems to have become a bit of theme on FH over the last several months. Although not intentional, my posts featuring the work of Von Melzer, this week's profile of the work James R. Cunningham and today's truly incredible shots of Kyler Adair from Studio James cannot just be coincidence.

Within voyeuristic themed images there are elements of danger and risk not present in traditionally shot work with the male form. It becomes about the secret of seeing more than what your actually observing. The moment becomes more intense, more erotic, because the moment was not meant to be captured.

Robert James photographic resume began in with what could be one of the most voyeuristic locations there is, underwater. Below the oceans surface is a dark world not really ever meant to be shared, let alone viewed and photographed by man. Every sight is a secret and to capture it you have to be both slow and incredibly fast as once your presence is detected your subjects usually flee.

'I started photography while in college. I had just earned my rating as a SCUBA instructor and wanted to photograph the incredible underwater world I was enjoying. This started me on my photographic journey. I became fascinated with the way the camera could capture a moment in time and preserve it. Everything happens so fast. To be able to capture just a small moment and sit and study it you see so much more. The underwater world is so different from our own and so filled with color.'

Growing up in the Midwest did not allow Robert many opportunities to practice his passion for underwater photography on a regular basis. In 1987, after a career related move to Madison, Wisconsin, Robert's camera pretty much sat idle in between his scuba trips. That was until 2000 when during one of his trips Robert's passions collided.

'Late in the summer of 2000, while on a boating trip, a close friend started to ‘model’ while I was taking a few casual photos of him. Even though it was unplanned, this became my first 'photo shoot'.

After this, Robert never looked back, soon after he purchased all new camera equipment and made shooting the male form his avocation. Robert was also inspired by Bryan Ockert's website Chaos In Austin. At the time, Bryan was just starting to photograph the male form and he kept an incredible journal of his experiences. He shared how nervous he was approaching guys and asking them to model. He literally learned his techniques from the School of Hard Knocks. Bryan's courage, to start from scratch and share his journey along the way, inspired Robert to follow his own passion for the art form and start over as well.

'It is Friday night, you have the whole house to yourself for the entire night, time to wind down, be you and do whatever you feel like doing'.

'The images of Kyler Adair are from my Home Alone Series. The Home Alone series was born from a desire to not pose the models, I prefer to capture them in natural positions. With this series we select a natural setting around the house, play music the model has selected and have a drink or glass of wine if they choose.

The model and I normally have several weeks before a shoot to talk over what we want to do during the shoot so we both have a good idea of what we want to accomplish. This shoot happened just as I was moving to a new house, I had to ask Kyler to wait till after the move and by the time I finished moving and was settled in enough to think about the shoot we only had a few short days which wasn’t time to plan anything out. I was going in blind, without a game plan. On top of that I had learned that Kyler had worked as a editor for male modeling magazine in Germany so I anticipated his level of expectations would be fairly high and I wasn’t sure I could live up to his standards. Between moving, no planning for the shoot and my perception of Kyler’s possible expectations I was a nervous wreck.'

I met Kyler when he drove up the driveway. From the moment he stepped out of his car I could see the easy, relaxed grace in his movements. He was a gentle, friendly soul with a warm smile that immediately put me at ease. Within ten minutes of his arrival the magic of this shoot started as we both clicked, it was as if he could read my mind and we were both on the same page without the need for a lot of planning. Late in the shoot I learned that Kyler did not have a good feeling about his looks. He felt he didn’t have the face to be a good model. As a young boy he had an accident involving a barb wire fence and his face. Even though I hadn’t even noticed it throughout the shoot he showed me the imperceptible scar on his cheek. I couldn’t wait to process the first few images and send them to him showing him how the camera saw an incredibly beautiful man. To this day, Kyler’s images still receive more comments than any other models in my portfolio.

Why is it that in 2011, someone high in the mountains of Indonesia can click on FH and read this post, yet, they still cannot invent a snow plow in North America whose blade can plow without burying cars on the street and people's driveways. Boggles the mind! Yes, if you did not guess, today we got our first dump of winter!

R.I.P John Neville

In most cases when I decide to do a R.I.P post it is of someone quite distant from me both personally and geographically. In the case of actor John Neville that is not exactly the case. I certainly did not know John well but in the mid eighties when I was about 11 I was directed by Mr. Neville (yes Mr.) in a stage production. I have written in the past about my acting aspirations and although this was not an entire play, it was 3 different scenes which were part of a closing showcase for a week long drama festival.

My main memory is of fascination mixed with fear. Fascination as I believe this was the first time I interacted with someone with a British accent and as a kid this intrigued me to no end. Fear as Mr. Neville held a stern presence. I was supposed to cry and his irritance with my inability to do so was frightening. Computers are an amazing thing really. I heard various stories about Mr. Neville, his stage history and accomplishments but it was when I got older and saw him on The X Files that I googled him to find out more about the man behind tearful (I did manage to squeak out a tear) direction. R.I.P Mr. Neville

Cleanse: Joel by James R Cunningham

'Exploring masculinity and playing with the idea of 'alone', many of my images have a voyeuristic quality. I enjoy shooting within the surroundings of a model's own home. My shoots are very simple; and very masculine. The viewer is taken into a world that is rarely seen, while the model is at his most vulnerable. Bare, and alone with his thoughts. This is a private world made public'

'The Shower' is a location often used by those capturing the male form. Obviously the shower is a place where we are usually (hopefully) naked on a daily basis. That in itself makes it a set more realistic than say placing a naked model at a bus stop or cross walk (although those shots can be equally as creative as fun). In my profile of photographer John Fallon this past summer I explored the bathroom and how in some ways it is the room in our homes that holds most of our secrets and much of our pain.

To me, these shots are not just of a guy washing, they are of a man cleansing, removing whatever it is that is emotionally weighing him down. It is through the way James quietly and erotically softly captures these private moments that gives them their power and their meaning.

Originally from Queensland's Gold Coast, James is now living and working in Melbourne, Australia, specialising in what he describes as 'domestic male-form' photography. A former student of film, the 26-year-old amateur photographer shies away from what is often described as 'the perfect man', preferring to invoke controversy and challenge stereotype by creating the 'perfect image of a flawed man'.

I love the last sentence above! There are hundreds of thousands of images of the perfect man on the internet, most, most blend together. It is the flawed man, shot by a skilled artist that really draws me in to want to take a closer look and to learn more.

'Working with Joel was a treat. He is an aspiring actor and model and although young (at 21, he's only five years younger than I am), he's completely dedicated and totally professional. I like to shoot my models in the surroundings of their own homes, and this can often be difficult to negotiate. But Joel immediately saw and believed in my vision and was more than willing to open up his share-house to my camera. Joel was relaxed on the day, easy to work with, and willing to go that extra mile - which I believe paid off and you can see the result come through in the images.'

John Gidding: Model, Actor, Architect

Something seems to be telling me it's time to move! For some reason the men of Renovation shows have been spinning through my head this week, yesterday a carpenter, today an architect. Full disclosure, I have never really seen architect John Gidding on television before, but a blog reader suggested he would make a good subject. The former model is certainly beautifully photogenic! Lying In Wait: Cameron Foster by Carl Proctor

Never one to push my luck...I try not to be too aggressive with my desire to have certain models and certain artists on FH. I usually e-mail a model or photographer, sometimes send a follow up, but then let it go. That being said, there are certain shoots I also hate to let pass by. I love featuring the work of Atlanta's Carl Proctor. Some of my best features have been showcasing Carl's work. The incredible model and actor Keith Griffin (the first post I did with Carl) remains one of my all time favorites.

This past summer Carl was generous to share his work with Benjamin Godfre with myself and FH.. Benjamin has been busy the past few months shooting and building his site, but back in July, Benjamin was just beginning the new phase of his modeling career and was carefully rolling out shots. I had already been fortunate to have previously showcased Benjamin's work with Jon Seneca. Carl was one of the first to shoot Ben during this new phase and I was fortunate that FH was one of the first places to feature some of Carl's work with Ben.

During one of my many questions to Carl about the Benjamin shoot he casually mentioned that he had just finished shooting Cameron Foster. I certainly knew who Cameron was, but a repeat video viewing was required research! I did not say too much at the time as we barely were through one profile without me pouncing on Carl about another so quickly.. But...or course, as you can see here, I did not forget.

'Yes, there are natural blonds. Cameron Foster just happens to be one. It isn't just his blond hair that makes him stand out; his engaging smile and positively good looks completed the package. He delivered tenfold for hour after hour without hesitation during our shoot, and it appeared he loved every minute of it. By his own admission Cameron is an exhibitionist. It turns him on to have other people watching him, well, expose himself. That made my job as a photographer that much easier, and it meant that everyone who is privileged to view his photos will definitely have a better day for having done so!'

Good Morning: Jake Coleman Wilson by Emerging Talent Images

When I first spotted shots from Emerging Talent Images, as usual, I knew I wanted to feature some on FH. It is difficult to put into words what initially attracted me. I am tempted to say 'fresh' and 'clean' but that does not quite do it justice and diminishes the skill involved with it's creation. Bill from Emerging Talent shoots mostly on location using natural light. The vibrancy he captures with color, in clothes, background and skin tone, reminds me how most of us look first thing in the morning. Just out of the shower, in clean clothes, before the elements and stresses of the day wear away some of our sheen.

This vibrancy is present within the Mississippi photographers studio shots as well as location. I think creating such appealing and welcoming images stems from Bill's initial goal of helping aspiring models to build their ports. Having amassed a fairly significant body of work and gained a bit of a reputation, Bill has since gone professional but welcomes aspiring models to contact him about shooting!

'I continue to enjoy working with models, helping them build an exceptional portfolio of images that will work to secure their ultimate success in this industry. But I am now in a position to be more selective about the projects I choose to do.'

20 year old Jake Coleman Wilson is the perfect model to showcase Bill's work, Great face and body and beautiful blue eyes for Bill to bring out. Jake also has the ability to take on a variety of looks and moods. A photographer as well, Jake is at ease in front of the camera and open to creative ideas within his work.

'I knew right away that Jake would be an excellent addition to my portfolio and I wasn't disappointed at our initial shoot, or at subsequent shoots for that matter. Jake is a natural. He has an innate sense of how he needs to pose to look his best in a shot. He is professional and easy to work with. Kudos to Jessica Lange in American Horror Story

In my last year in University I took this incredible course called 'The History of Mental Disorders'. The course was incredible as the professor didn't really teach much he just pressed play each week on VCR. Each week he played one movie after another about the history of every kind of mental disorder depicted in the movies. One of these movies was Jessica Lange's turn as Francis Farmer in Francis from 1982. Up until the point I had only seen Lange on television in King Kong and thought of her more as a sex symbol more than an actress. I of course was wrong. Lange has become a favorite of mine. I cannot believe I waited until just a few years ago to first watch Tootsie, but I have watched it twice since.

Lange is absolutely brilliant as Constance in American History Story and although I love entire show, Lange's scenes, and quotes are my favorite part of the 44 minutes. Lange's line delivery is incredible and she plays off each of the cast members equally well. I am going to miss her relationship with Ade, but given the dead seem never to actually die on this show hopefully there will be more.

I have not really loved the trajectory of Chris O'Donnell's career but...as a teenager I loved Chris in his early films. I haven't seen Men Don't Leave in awhile and will have to track it down on Amazon to watch again.

King Kong

I was just a kid when I saw the 76 version of King Kong on television during a Saturday afternoon matinee. From there I tried to watch it every time it came on tv until I finally managed to tape it on my VHS machine. The film is flawed but to me is so much more enjoyable than the recent Peter Jackson version. This King Kong has Jeff Bridges (with his long hair), Jessica, and an Ape whose emotions are far more real, even in an Ape Suit, than Jackson could digitally portray.

The Postman Always Rings Twice

I think the first time I saw Jack Nicholson on screen when I was about 10 or 11. I went with a friend and his family to see 'The Witches Of Eastwick'. I fell in love with two things during that movie, Michelle Pfieffer and Jack's acting. Jack's devil was brilliantly over the top and I have sought out most of Jack's work since.

Kudos to Rosie

I am trying to like the new Rosie show. Rosie O'Donnell is one those celebrities who often bugs the shit out of me. Loud and abrasive, I often disagree with much of what she says. But I cannot help but respecting her, as much for her struggles as her accomplishments. She is a beautifully flawed woman but her desire to spotlight and support those most ignore is something I appreciate.

I give Rosie kudos for her spotlight this week on the occupy Wall street protesters. To be honest I somehow tuned out this story, not really paying much attention to the people involved and specific reasons for the protests. I had a vague idea and am a bit ashamed I found them a bit annoying. Rosie however did something I have not really seen, or maybe did not paid attention to, in other newscasts and television shows. Rosie made me care. She put a face, many of them, on the protesters and not the overall reason we all should be angry, but the individual reasons people have had enough.

DuncanL: Leaving Fashion At The Door

DuncanL does enjoy fashion shoots, he's tall, slim and his body looks great in clothes. What drew me to Duncan's portfolio however, what not what he was wearing, nor was it that in many of his shots he is wearing nothing at all. What drew me to Duncan's images was the creativity and beauty within the work.

Being a freelance model, Duncan is looking for photographers who don't just shoot him naked, but bring something new and artistic, something 'outside the box' to the creative process. The Australian model has focused primarily on his artist portfolio, working on bodyscapes, concept and erotic themes. My favorite images usually stem from conceptual shoots. When the primary focus is not fashion or product but instead, feel and message,, artistry tends to flow much deeper.
